On September 30, 2017, his 83rd birthday, Robert William Pilcher, Sr. went home to be with his Lord.
Born in New Orleans on September 30, 1934, Bob was the adopted son of Don Harris Pilcher and Willie Cloud Pilcher. He was raised in Jackson, MS. Bob attended Central High School in Jackson before graduating from Greenville (MS) High School in 1952. He was a graduate of Mississippi Southern College (now USM). In 1954, Bob joined the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps Band, and for a time served as the band's youngest Drum Major. A proud veteran, Bob loved to share memories of his time in military service.
Bob was a kind, gentle man who loved nothing more than spending time with his Lord, his family, and his friends. A longtime member of First Baptist Church of Jackson, he faithfully served as a teacher for the Special Ministries Adult Sunday School class for over two decades. With his beautiful tenor voice, Bob joyfully sang in the FBCJ choir as well as the FBCJ Reflections senior adult choir for many years. To his friends, he was the man with the infectious smile, great sense of humor, and enduring love for his Savior, Jesus Christ. To his family, he "hung the moon."
Bob is survived by: His wife of sixty years, Doris Bardin Pilcher, who was the love of his life and the "prettiest girl he ever saw"; son Robert Pilcher, Jr. (Beverly) of Terry, MS; daughter, Deborah Pilcher King, of Jackson, MS; son David Pilcher (Julie) of Ridgeland, MS; his grandchildren, Tyler King, Cody King (Britta), June Clare Pilcher, and Julienne Pilcher; great-grandchildren, Liliana and Rosalie King; brother, Don Pilcher, Jr. (Kay), of Dallas, TX, and Kapo, his faithful Dachshund companion.
Visitation will be on Wednesday at 10AM at First Baptist Jackson with service to follow at 11AM. Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Mustard Seed in Brandon, MS, or any FBCJ ministry of your choice.
