Robert Daniel "Dan" Burt, 78, of Madison, MS, died October 2, 2017, in the Hughes Memory Care Nursing Home at St. Catherine's Village, in Madison, MS, after valiantly fighting Alzheimer's for many years. He was born March 30, 1939, in Neshoba County, MS, to Robert and Ethel Fulton Burt. He was a good man with a humble, gentle spirit who loved the Lord and considered it an honor to serve God and help anyone in need.

Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2017, at Parkway Funeral Home and 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 5, 2017, with service to follow at 11:00 a.m. October 5, 2017 at Broadmoor Baptist Chapel and burial in Parkway Memorial Cemetery.

Dan is survived by wife of 58 years, Jeanelle Cumberland Burt, daughter Lynn Burt Lister (Tommy) of Madison, MS, and son Kerry Daniel Burt (Blythe) of Prosper, TX, and four grandchildren: Jennifer Lila Lister Sanders (Andrew), Thomas Scott Lister (fiancé Jennings Graham), Ryan Daniel Burt, and Avery Lynn Burt. He is also survived by brother, John Burt, Philadelphia, MS, and sisters, Walterine McKay, Madison, MS, and Annie Laura Browning, Clinton, MS, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, J.C. Burt, and baby sister, Alice Burt.

Dan served eight years in the Mississippi Army National Guard (Dixie Division) Philadelphia, MS. He was retired from the Jackson, MS, Fire Department and as owner of Burt Gutter Service. One of his hobbies was fishing, and it didn't matter if he was using a cane pole, trotline, rod and spinning reel, or deep sea fishing, he said God could speak to you in the quietness of nature.

Dan was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church. Through the years, he served in many church positions including deacon, various committees, and one of his favorites was preschool Sunday School teacher.

The family would like to thank the many wonderful caregivers and staff at St. Catherine's Village for their kindness and care and thank specifically Leslie Haines, Nurse Practitioner, who in her capacity as onsite Nurse Practitioner for Dr. George Patten, watched over Dan with tenderness and skill and held the hand of his wife, Jeanelle, as he transitioned through the various stages of Alzheimer's. Additionally, the family would like to express their appreciation to the entire staff of Kindred Hospice as they made his last days as comfortable and peaceful as possible.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritian's Purse, Broadmoor Baptist Building Fund, or a favorite charity.
